This single storey residence in a large natural landscape setting was designed and built to a budget.
The house has an open floor plan with sweeping roof lines extending out over a large outdoor living area. All living and recreation spaces open to the north with the high ceilings adding ample cross ventilation in summer.
The roof and its main support structure are steel, exposed I-beams and columns are lined with hardwood planks, linking the larger scale elements to warmer interior elements of timber flooring, joinery, furniture and artworks.
The building’s main feature has to be its close relationship to the well established flora and fauna. With time and maturing vegetation the building will eventually disappear. HIA Award Winner 2008 the jury commented:
“This home is an excellent example of how good design can be achieved at a reasonable cost”
