Palm Beach 1

This new house is situated on a steeply sloping site with a due north aspect and views over Palm Beach and Barrenjoey Headland. A chain of level decks and pavilions follows the natural contours, hugging the native bushland boardwalk uphills and affording its inhabitants glorious views from every room. The solid concrete pod structure was carefully set out to minimise excavation and disturbance to the existing bushland.

Structural steel and timber elements were brought in by helicopter and assembled.

The combination of quality materials has created a warm and inviting building which complements the natural vegetation on site, evoking an atmosphere of reflection and permanent holiday.

Green design features adopted include:

  • Being one room deep allows for effective cross ventilation * zoning contains heating in winter.
  • recycled timber decking and flooring internally
  • low voc paints and floor finishes
